ARTIST STATEMENT:
This painting is designed to establish a direct dialogue between the viewer and subject. Some might consider it daring, pure, confrontational, or even naive. These are all honest emotions; and the woman, exposed and naturalistic in her appearance, is also communicating them in an honest way. One eye is all that is necessary to explain her entire story. In her vulnerability through pure honesty, she has strength.
The painting is achieved through a layering of tones with paint, with a slight texture to the face in a pointillism style with the brush.
